CARD PAYMENT FAILED? – (AVS - Address Verification MisMatch)

Please read below:

When paying by card, you are directed to the Worldpay Secure Paymentment Gateway.

To ensure that the card being used belongs to the purchaser, the Address given has to match the registered address of the Cardholder.

Should this not match, then your payment will be declined. In this situation, your bank will ‘ringfence’ the attempted payment – and this will look like you’ve paid - you haven’t.

If you’ve tried multiple times – then you’ll see multiple attempted payments. Again, these haven’t been taken.

These “attempted payments” will simply vanish overnight – though some banks do take a few days to clear these.

REASONS FOR CARD FAIL

You’ve probably used this card in the past successfully elsewhere. Not all payment gateways check your full address – but Worldpay does – so it needs to be a match.

PERSONAL CARD – Declined

Providing you have funds, there are 2 main reasons for card payment failure:

  1. You’ve moved. Perhaps you notified your bank – but this did not get amended on your card.
  2. You have an ambiguous first line of address (either a house name, flat number) In this case, make sure you enter the first line just as the bank does on your account

BUSINESS CARD – Declined

Generally, business cards will be registered to the Named Cardholder’s Personal address – as legally any debt on the card is with the employee – not company. Sometimes, cards are registered to a Head Office Address. This will be the address you will need to enter.

HELP....

Please don’t keep trying. If your card failed once, it will continue to fail if you keep the same address and will multiply the ‘ringfenced’ funds – which could max out your card. Please call us to talk through options.
